About
Born in Panipat, Haryana, I am the second youngest of seven siblings. I had trained to be a lecturer with a post-graduate degree in English literature.
Marriage brought me to Bombay in 1984. Responsibilities of a family meant I had to give up on my ambitions of being an IAS officer and a college lecturer. I was, however, satisfied to be the primary caretaker of my family.
Though in my heart of hearts, there was a feeling of lost potential. I was missing something.
About three years ago, in 2018, I came across a workshop for Macrame knotting. That workshop was transformational. I was amazed by the infinite potential of what could be done with threads and simple knotting techniques.
I have always been an exceptionally quick learner, and I used the internet and started practicing every day. Slowly falling in love with the Bohemian aesthetic. It has been an exceptional journey and I proudly say that I can now not only imagine, but create works of highly functional art.
Simple home decor pieces have now expanded to handbags, slings, wall-hangings, accessories and clothing. I’ve also started to involve my friends, family and community groups to help them explore Macrame as an artform.
My goal for the next two years is to establish my studio, Manju’s Studio, as a creative workshop and establish stores around the city. The products I create are not only aesthetically pleasing, but functionally brilliant!
I would be delighted if you, dear visitor, would join me on my journey. Thank you for reading. :)
